The courses provided in the camp for freshmen are all taught in English. The camp which opens on August 30 requires students to stay in dormitories. Students learn to study and live on campus in the foreign language during the eight-day event. YZU offered English-taught courses years ago, and the camp prepares freshmen to fit into a new academic environment.
YZU English Camp had eight years long and received a thousand students each year. Freshmen learn to use English in class and activities. Professor I-Chung Ke (柯宜中), Director of Department of Foreign Languages and Applied Linguistics, says the camp inspires students to learn about progress on their own and learn to think in a foreign language independently. Moreover, teachers in the camp guide freshmen to explore methods and skills of using English, helping to build their confidence and habits to speak English in public.
